Day 2
17th was a different story altogether.
You wake up in the morning, assemble and Mr.Halasyam has a reasonably sadistic idea. Some get blindfolded, some get handcuffed, some get gagged and we are asked to go on a 1.5km trek through the extremely rocky and wooded Bannerghatta Forest.
Sure, Mr.Halasyam made his point. That any endeavour in an organization is all about teamwork and planning. But it was a painful point to many.
After a while, the team got a hang of things. The gagged, the handcuffed and the blindfolded got together to use their available senses and abilities together so that it wasn’t a case of the blind leading the blind.
This teamwork and planning point took about two hours. A relieved team rested. But Mr.Halasyam had other ideas.
Obstacle courses look pretty easy on TV. Allow us to assure you that they aren’t. A 100 ft. course took us 2 hours again to complete.
When we spotted the lake at the end of the course, it was definitely a welcome sight for weary muscles. But no. For the next two hours we struggled to plan, design and make a raft we could cross the lake with. With considerable risk to life and limb, the whole team managed to get across.
But this was a point well made. For most of us, there are enough and more things to occupy us in our own departments. We have more than enough deadlines to meet. In the process, one tends to lose sight of the ultimate product and goal. One tends to forget that with collaboration and proper planning, a lot can be made better and easier.
When it comes to issues like quality and customer focus, unless the whole team contributes, together, we as an organization are that much weaker.
We finished on a good note. With an interesting learning. That none of us is as good as all of us.
We plan to make sure that we practice what we learnt at Wonder Valley. Otherwise which, Mr.Halasyam has offered to return.
